The Icom GM1600 VHF Radio is made for GMDSS-compliant communications among survival craft. The radio introduces the most recent Search and Rescue technology to the market and is designed to survive and operate in the harsh weather conditions typical of marine emergencies. The shock-resistant housing of the Icom GM1600 VHF Radio is made of a vividly colored dye-injected polymer, ensuring that it will always be simple to locate in a survival bag, a life raft, or any other location when you need to find it immediately.

The GM1600 satisfies criteria for resistance to temperature, thermal shock, vibration, and drops (from a height of 1 m). The GM1600 maintains the 1m deep waterproof construction required by IMO decisions A.809(19), A.694(17), and IEC 61097-12 after completing certain environmental tests. Even at -4oF, the BP-234 battery can function.
The large, clearly labeled buttons have a positive action "feel" and a customizable buzzer tone for sure operation, and all knobs are proportioned for quick usage. Channel 16 and the call channel are both accessible with a single tap on the front panel.
