The Beam RST970 Intelligent Handset features a simple user interface for enabling Voice and SMS services in a variety of markets. The RST970 handset can make voice calls as well as send and receive text messages using the Iridium SMS service. The RST970 Intelligent Handset is small and easy to use, with a hang-up cup for quick attachment and a 1.5m extension cable, mounting bracket, and joiner included.

The signal strength from the Iridium Satellite network is displayed on the RST970 Intelligent Handset. It can hold up to 100 names and numbers, while the SIM can hold up to 155. The phone book option allows you to quickly add and remove numbers from your phone book. Users can use the Personal Mailbox Services to receive voicemail notifications and send and receive numeric and text messages from anywhere in the world.
